FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What is Starfish Magic?
Starfish Magic is a children's theatre company. There were originally two of us, Star and Fish. That's where the 'Starfish' came from!
2. What did you do before Starfish Magic?
3. Who writes your shows?
Somebody comes up with an idea and a first draft then we work on it collectively. Starfish Magic has a history of its members collaborating with one another - it's one of our strengths and keeps our material rich and fresh.
4. Where do you get your music from?
Fish writes and produces all the music.
5. WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR PERFORMERS FROM?
That's a good question! We only use very talented people who can sing, move and communicate well. Sometimes we advertise; sometimes people approach us. If you're reading this and are interested in being part of the group, email your CV. You will need to live in Auckland, have your own tranport, be child -friendly and reliable. Obviously we can't expect someone to be a knockout at everything but we do require our people to be capable singer/dancer/actors and to be very strong in one or two of these. (We don't force people into round holes - we tend to use them in ways that shows off their talents.)
6. What's your most popular show?
That's a tricky one. Probably Funky Fairytales or Pirate and Mermaid (plus Bully 4U in schools) but the others are popular as well!
7. Do you write songs or shows for specific
occasions or events?
We specialise in doing this.
8. DO YOU PERFORM OUTSIDE AUCKLAND?
It's simply not affordable to do one-off preschool, school or library shows. We usually need two shows on the same day to make it worhwhile.
We will travel for festivals but require accomodation if it's more than two hours out of Auckland.

9. How much do you charge?
Some of our Auckland charges are set in concrete (e.g. birthday parties are $240 + GST, preschools are $230 + GST, schools are $3.50 per child) but other events have so many variables, it's impossible to have a set price. It depends on exactly what is required, whether there are multiple performances and (in the case of performances outside Auckland), the amount of travel involved. Email us with your request and we will quickly get back with a firm price.
10. What do you do when you're not performing?
We work on new material, record songs and do all the others things involved in running a business. Fish also has 6-year-old called Jonah who keeps him VERY busy!
