About Starfish Magic


Starfish Magic are a professional children's theatre company with years of experience.

Since 2002, Starfish Magic have performed about 3000 shows in schools, preschools, festivals, libraries, Christmas functions, birthday parties and private functions in Melbourne (3.5 years) and Auckland.

Fish, the Creative Director of Starfish Magic, was the founder of The Aunties and wrote all their songs. He has produced 29 albums of original children's music and is currently working on his 36th album.

MISSION STATEMENT: Starfish Magic are committed to producing interactive, child-centred, original shows of the highest quality.

ARIF USMANI (FISH)

Born 1949, Auckland, New Zealand

PERFORMANCE

Extensively toured NZ schools and concert halls (with The Aunties.)  40 years performance in theatre and music in a wide variety of situations and ensembles.


SONGWRITER

Written and produced 29 children's music albums Written well over 1500 songs (for both children and adults.) Lyricist.  Song Doctor.

TELEVISION

Wrote Aunties Alphabet TV series broadcast 16 times, a NZ record!

MUSIC

Professional musician in London, New Zealand, France, Australia. Recording producer and engineer. Founder and, original pianist of the Frank E Evans Band.

THEATRE

Founder of The Aunties in 1981 and Creative Director for 19 years.  Produced 12 large-scale full-theatre family musicals. Written over 200 scripts including five bi-lingual Maori Legend shows. Regularly wrote shows for the National Maritme Museum.
 

RADIO

Founder of bFM, the Auckland Student Radio in 1969.  Designed and cocohosted children's radio shows for ten years.
